Our Beginner’s class costs £25 (or £10, if you live work or study in Hounslow. Thanks for supporting cycling in Hounslow, Hounslow council!), runs from 10am to 3pm on the Saturdays listed below, and takes place at our workshop at 18 Queens Avenue, Greenford, UB6 9BX. It’s ideal for people who feel they know nothing about bicycle maintenance, though many people find it useful even if they’ve been around a bike for a while. The next classes are January the 11th, 2020, followed by August the 15th.
Class topics include:
Learning the names of the parts of your bike
M-check thorough safety check of your bike
Rear wheel removal
Replacing an inner tube
Fixing a puncture
To book a place on this class, please use the form at the bottom of this page, selecting the class date which suits you best, before filling in your details.
Please note – we’re now asking people to pay the full £25 cost of the class when they make their booking. This payment is returnable in full if you cancel your place no later than two weeks ahead of the class date, or if we’re able to fill your place if you cancel closer to the class date. If London Bike Hub cancels the course, your payment is refundable is full. We’re having to do this as we’re finding a number of people have been booking places and then not showing up, or responding to our efforts to contact them, which is unfair on those others we have to turn away once a class is fully booked.
Paying for your booking
The deposit can be paid by Paypal (to firstname.lastname@example.org), or via bank transfer to London Bike Hub, sort code 08-92-99, and account number 65441099. Please use your initials, along with the first few letters of the course title, as your payment reference. We can take the deposit as cash, if you drop it by the workshop at least a couple of weeks ahead of the course.
Do I need to bring my own bike?
As is the case for all our classes, if you’d like to bring along your own bike to work on, that would be fine. Otherwise, we have bikes you can practise on if you’d prefer to leave your trusty transport at home. The one possible exception is our Brompton maintenance class, since keeping six Bromptons in stock as maintenance demonstrators would be rather expensive!
Beyond the beginning
If you’re looking to go beyond what we cover in the Beginner’s class, you can take your knowledge to the next level with three different intermediate courses: Cleaning, brakes and gears; Care and replacement of hubs, cassettes, chain and derailleurs; and Care and replacement of headsets and bottom brackets, and wheel truing.
